Sci Fi Assault Rifle

A sci fi assault rifle based on a concept art by Till Freitag. Modelled in Blender, textured in Substance & bakes + renders in Marmoset.

I've been meaning to switch from Maya to Blender as my primary modeling tool for ages now, but always have been intimidated by Blender's unconventional control scheme. Plus I needed to brush up on my hard surface modeling skills. Fortunately there was some time available at work to get accustomed Blender and I figured it was the perfect time to tackle both tasks at once :)

It was quite the challenge to avoid 'giving up' and going back to my 'comfort' programs (it was super tempting to just launch up Zbrush and sculpt the curvy ivory parts there instead), but I'm happy to say that I managed to make the whole thing in just Blender. Can't say I miss Maya though, except for maybe the odd little feature here and there. Blender's modifiers are a such a dream to work with and I can't go back.

The final low poly model ended up being 18k tris, with a single 4k texture.
